B Mirror Report: Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced that all export sectors in Bangladesh will receive equal facilities similar to those enjoyed by the readymade garment (RMG) industry, aiming to boost export diversification and overall growth.
He made the announcement at an event organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
The minister said that facilities such as bonded warehouse access and back-to-back letters of credit (LC) currently available to the RMG sector will be extended to other export-oriented industries. He expressed optimism that this move would create a level playing field and significantly enhance the country’s export performance.
“If we can ensure the same facilities across all sectors, exports will grow further,” he said.
Acknowledging concerns about potential misuse of such benefits, the finance minister noted that isolated irregularities should not hinder broader economic progress. The system cannot be halted because of a few wrongdoers; there are mechanisms in place to deal with them,” he added.
Referring to the current economic situation, he said the government has limited scope to offer major tax incentives at this time. However, he assured that efforts are underway to reduce the cost of doing business within the next three months.
