The use of internet banking in Bangladesh continues to rise rapidly. According to the latest report from Bangladesh Bank, transactions through internet banking and mobile banking apps reached Tk 1,04,935 crore in June 2025. In July, this amount increased to Tk 1,13,470 crore, showing a monthly growth of Tk 8,535 crore.
Bank officials say that with advancements in technology, customers are increasingly prioritizing online banking and apps over visiting physical branches. Recently, the use of internet banking for shopping and bill payments has also grown significantly.
As per data, in June, the number of internet banking users stood at 11.37 million (1 crore 13 lakh 66 thousand 563). In July, this rose to 11.64 million (1 crore 16 lakh 42 thousand 594) — an increase of 276,031 new users in just one month.
Transaction volume also rose during this period:
- In June, total transactions were 18.3 million (1 crore 83 lakh 5 thousand 24)
- In July, this increased to 20.36 million (2 crore 3 lakh 61 thousand 782)
Among all banks, Islami Bank’s “CellFin” app and internet platform had the highest volume of transactions, accounting for nearly half of all internet banking transactions. It is followed by Dutch-Bangla Bank’s NexusPay, City Bank’s CityTouch, BRAC Bank’s Astha, Eastern Bank’s SkyBanking, and several others.
In the past, people had to rely on cash or stand in long queues at banks to shop or pay bills. Even mobile recharges had to be done at stores. But with the rise of digital banking, customers can now access a wide range of services from home.
Currently, nearly 8 million users regularly perform transactions via internet banking and banking apps. These services allow easy money transfers, bill payments, mobile recharges, ticket purchases, credit card bill payments, and much more.
