B Mirror Report: The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) witnessed mixed performance during the week ending June 11, with market capitalisation declining by Tk 2,966 crore despite gains in all major indices and a significant rise in trading turnover.
According to the DSE’s weekly market update, the bourse’s market capitalisation fell by 0.43 percent week-on-week to Tk 6,90,010 crore on the last trading day of the week, down from Tk 6,92,976 crore in the previous week.
However, all key indices posted gains during the week. The benchmark DSEX index rose by 45.40 points, or 0.83 percent, while the DSES index advanced by 5.67 points, or 0.51 percent. The DS30 index also gained 4.57 points, or 0.22 percent.
Trading activity on the DSE increased substantially. Total turnover during the week reached Tk 6,438.08 crore, up from Tk 4,623.53 crore in the previous week, marking an increase of Tk 1,814.55 crore.
Average daily turnover also increased by Tk 131.73 crore, or 11.40 percent, to Tk 1,287.61 crore, compared with Tk 1,155.88 crore in the preceding week.
During the week, shares and mutual fund units of 386 companies were traded on the DSE. Of them, prices of 183 companies advanced, 173 declined and 30 remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) showed a mostly negative trend. The benchmark CASPI and CSCX indices fell by 0.47 percent and 0.66 percent respectively to close at 15,195.70 points and 9,320.08 points.
The CSI index dropped by 4.01 percent to 897.08 points, while the CSE-50 index declined by 1.90 percent to 1,108.70 points. However, the CSE-30 index edged up by 0.01 percent to 13,396.58 points.
Total turnover at the CSE stood at Tk 183.02 crore during the week, compared with Tk 132.88 crore in the previous week, registering an increase of Tk 50.14 crore.
A total of 337 companies’ shares and mutual fund units were traded on the CSE, of which 194 advanced, 114 declined and 29 remained unchanged.
