The Kawran Bazar and Shahbagh stations of the Dhaka Metro Rail Line 6 opened to the public on Sunday. With the opening of these two stations, all 16 stations on the line, from Uttara to Motijhil, are now operational.
The opening of these two stations was confirmed by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the company that operates the metro rail. DMTCL Managing Director M A N Siddique said that passengers were able to board and disembark at the stations from Sunday morning.
The metro rail stations are as follows: Uttara-North, Uttara Center, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Agargaon, Victory Avenue, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Secretariat, Motijhil, Kamalapur (to be opened later).
The metro rail operates from 7:30am to 11:30am on the Agargaon-Motijhil section and from 7:30am to 8:30pm on the Uttara-Agargaon section. Starting in March 2024, the Agargaon-Motijhil section will operate from morning to night.
The opening of the Kawran Bazar and Shahbagh stations is a major milestone for the Dhaka Metro Rail project. It will provide a much-needed transportation option for residents of Dhaka, especially those who commute to work or school in the city.
