Cumilla City corporation to made corruption-free: Administrator

Elias Hossain, Cumilla Correspondent:  Cumilla City Corporation (CuCC) Administrator Yusuf Molla Tipu on Sunday pledged to transform the civic body into a corruption-free institution and develop Cumilla into a modern, livable city.

Speaking at a press conference held at 11:00 am on April 12 at the Atindra Mohan Roy Conference Room of the city corporation, Tipu outlined his plans and priorities just 28 days after assuming office. The event was attended by Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mamun, Executive Engineer Abu Sayeem Bhuiyan, other officials, and invited journalists.

Tipu said several initiatives have already been undertaken to modernize the city, focusing on traffic management, waterlogging, roads, ফুটpaths, drainage systems, and recreational facilities. “We are committed to completing stalled projects from the previous administration and ensuring quality in all ongoing works,” he said, adding that he is personally inspecting projects regularly with officials.

Highlighting corruption as a major concern, the administrator stated that he has observed numerous irregularities from the past. “From now on, there will be no corruption in this office. We are determined to make this city corporation corruption-free,” he asserted.

Regarding urban traffic, Tipu announced plans to introduce one-way traffic on key roads, including the Kandirpar to Badurtala route, and to bring discipline to the city’s transport system. He also emphasized removing illegal encroachments from roads and footpaths to ease congestion

He further said that measures are being taken to regulate the entry of heavy vehicles into the city and to bring auto-rickshaws under a registration system based on road fitness. Efforts are also underway to appoint magistrates to strengthen eviction drives against illegal occupiers.

On drainage and environmental management, the administrator said all canals and drains in the city will be brought under sustainable development plans and cleared of encroachments. Cleaning activities have already begun, and new equipment and insecticides are being used to control mosquitoes, which has already reduced their prevalence.

Tipu expressed optimism that visible improvements in the city’s infrastructure and services will be seen within the next six months. He cited ongoing work to remove electric poles from the Zilla School Road, which he said will soon be transformed into an aesthetically pleasing route.

Calling on journalists for support, Tipu urged them to report any irregularities or corruption in development works. “If we can eliminate corruption from this department, we will be able to build a beautiful and livable Cumilla,” he said.

He concluded by expressing his vision of turning Cumilla into one of the most attractive and model city corporations in the country.
