Ministry seeks suspension of cotton yarn bond withdrawal

The Ministry of Commerce has asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to suspend its order withdrawing bond facilities for imports of 10-30 count cotton yarn and requiring importers to provide bank guarantees.

The ministry’s Export Wing sent a letter to NBR Chairman, requesting suspension of the order pending further review.

Signed by Mohammad Khairul Alam, deputy head of Export-8 branch, the letter said the measure concerning imports of 10-30 count cotton yarn under HS headings 5205, 5206 and 5207 should be suspended to facilitate a more detailed review.

The request refers to an NBR order issued on Sept 7, 2026, under order number 51/2026/Customs/319. The order withdrew the bond facility for imports of 10-30 count cotton yarn and introduced a requirement to import the products against bank guarantees.

The Ministry of Commerce said the order should remain suspended until the matter is reviewed and a decision is taken.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the private secretaries to the commerce minister and secretary, as well as officials of the Export Wing and Export-2 branch.
