Chittagong Green Technology Data Center Project Approval

B Mirror Desk : Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) is building a green data center in Hathazari, Chittagong. A proposal in this area from the Department of Posts and Telecommunications has received in-principle approval from the Economic Affairs Advisory Council Committee.

Under the direction of Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the Advisory Council Committee met Thursday, April 17, in the Cabinet Division conference room of the Secretariat, and approved the plan in principle.

A project idea has been taken to establish a state-of-the-art green data center on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis on 149.48 acres of BTCL’s vacant land in Fatika Mouza in Hathazari Upazila of Chittagong, according to sources at the meeting.

If the project is carried out, it will boost the creation of foreign investment, job prospects, and economic growth in the nation. In addition to meeting its own demands, BTCL will earn more money by renting data storage. In this case, the committee authorized a proposal to implement the project on a PPP basis after it was submitted for in-principle approval.

According to information obtained, following in-principle approval, a feasibility study will be conducted to finalize the project’s technical and financial components, and an open tender will be used to choose the private partner in accordance with PPP criteria. ADB has indicated interest in offering the project transaction consulting services and technical support.
