The central bank has issued a warning regarding an effort to gather sensitive and confidential information from the public through a fraudulent website, despite the absence of any official website or app for the national card scheme ‘Taka Pay’.
In a notification released on Monday (August 4), Bangladesh Bank cautioned that individuals who visit or submit information on the site https://takapaycard.com may incur financial losses and face harassment.
The notification explained that Bangladesh Bank initiated a national card scheme known as ‘Taka Pay’ to regulate domestic card-based transactions, reduce costs, and limit the use of foreign currency. Currently, 15 scheduled banks are offering ‘Taka Pay’ debit cards to their customers under this initiative.
However, it has come to light that there is an ongoing attempt to collect sensitive and confidential information from the public via the fraudulent website https://takapaycard.com. At this time, there is no official website or app for ‘Taka Pay’. The logo of Bangladesh Bank ‘Taka Pay’ and NPSB has been improperly used on this deceptive site. No individual or organization is permitted to conduct financial transactions, accept investments, or provide loans without the authorization of Bangladesh Bank. Such actions are subject to legal penalties.
In the notice, bank officials urged the public to refrain from visiting the website and to avoid sharing any information.
