Fareast Islami Life has initiated legal proceedings against three individuals, including Apel Mahmud, a life member of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDR) and the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fareast Islami Life Insurance Company Limited, on allegations of fraud and information theft.
The other individuals implicated in the case are Lokman Faruk, who is in charge of Fareast Life’s IT department, and Osman Gani, the Assistant Vice President.
The company’s legal officer, Md. Jasim Uddin, lodged the complaint at Shahbagh Police Station on August 4. The case has been filed under sections 19, 21, and 22 of the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025.
According to the case statement, the accused, acting in collusion, accessed the digital device of the Fareast Islamic Life Insurance Company Limited’s head office, unlawfully accessed the database, and disclosed confidential information such as national identity cards, bank account details, mobile numbers, salaries, allowances, and employee identification numbers of 55,086 officers and employees to an organization named ‘Subline’ for financial gain.
The case statement further indicates that the lives and property of the organization’s officers and employees are at risk due to the release of this sensitive information.
