Cabinet Approves Record-Breaking Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25

In a special meeting on Thursday, the Cabinet approved the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the session held at the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Finance Minister AH Mahmood Ali, accompanied by other ministers and state ministers, was present at the meeting. The finance minister is scheduled to present the proposed budget in the afternoon, following its authentication by the president.

The proposed budget for FY 2024-25 surpasses Tk 8 lakh crore, incorporating an Annual Development Programme (ADP) of Tk 265,000 crore. The National Economic Council (NEC) has already endorsed this ADP, with the transport and communication sector receiving the highest allocation of Tk 70,687.75 crore, which constitutes 26.67 percent of the total allocation.

Moreover, the NEC has sanctioned an additional ADP of Tk 13,288.91 crore for autonomous bodies and corporations, raising the total ADP for 2024-25 to Tk 278,288.91 crore.

The ADP comprises 1,321 projects, including 1,133 investment projects, 21 survey projects, 87 technical assistance projects, and 80 projects from autonomous bodies and corporations.

Among the ministries and divisions, the Local Government Division is set to receive the highest allocation, approximately Tk 38,809 crore, accounting for 15 percent of the total ADP allocation.
