The executive director (ED) of capital market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Md. Mahbubul Alam, has resigned. He had been working at BSEC for more than 25 years.
He resigned on Monday (March 10) and submitted his resignation letter to the BSEC chairman, sources confirmed.
Sources said that Mahbubul Alam had been working at BSEC for more than 25 years. However, on Wednesday (March 5), various charges were brought against him and several other officials and employees, including blocking the BSEC chairman and three commissioners. In view of this, a case was filed against him and 16 officials and employees on Thursday (March 6) night. However, Mahbubul Alam surrendered himself at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday (March 9) and took bail. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana granted his bail and issued an order.
Meanwhile, 13 BSEC officials and employees surrendered and took bail till Sunday and Monday. However, former BSEC Executive Director Saifur Rahman, Director Abu Raihan Md. Mohtasin Billa and Deputy Director Touhidul Islam are yet to take bail.
When asked about this, BSEC Executive Director Md. Mahbubul Alam said, I surrendered and took bail at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Sunday. I worked on Monday. I decided to resign after considering the overall situation. So I submitted my resignation letter today.
