BSEC Considers T+1 Implementation with BNYM-HSBC

B Mirror Desk : A meeting took place involving the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and representatives from Bank of New York Mellon (BNYM), a leading global custodian, along with their Bangladeshi sub-custodian, HSBC.

The agenda included various market topics, notably the implementation of T+1 settlement in the capital market of Bangladesh. Present at the meeting on Wednesday, May 21, were BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood, BSEC Commissioner Farzana Lalarukh, BNYM Senior Vice President Ah, Dey Kasem, HSBC Bangladesh Head of Financial Institutions Monir Uddin, Senior Vice President M Nazmul Hasan, and Vice President Shaila Alam Trisha.

The discussions covered recent advancements in Bangladesh’s capital market, BSEC’s future initiatives, and market supervision. Specific focus was given to the operationalization of CCBL, technological enhancements in the capital market, modernization of relevant laws and regulations, and the introduction of T+1 settlement. Furthermore, the meeting addressed the need for capital market development and reform in Bangladesh to elevate it to a world-class standard and to attract greater foreign investment by enhancing the role of custodians in the market.
