Boro harvesting is on full swing in Magura

Nasirul Islam Bablu,Magura : (April 29) :The harvesting of Boro  is on in full swing in the district.  A total of 39530 hectares of land were brought under Boro cultivation in all four upazilas of the district with a production target of 2,68,015 metric tones of rire in the current season.

The DAE official said, out of this, 39530  hectares land were brought under Boro  cultivation in the district this season.Of this 17,365  hectares in sadar upazila,1,330 hectares in Sreepur upazila,13,575 hectares  in shalikha upazila, 7,260  hectares in Mohammadpur upazila of the district.

A target of 2,68,015 tones of rice  production has been set from 39,530 hectares of land, he said.

The DAE official said, cultivation of  Boro  has been increasing every year here as the growers are getting fair prices for their products,adding that more than six  percent harvesting of Boro has already been completed in the district till April 27.Boro  seeds and fertilizer were given among  6,000 farmers free of  cost in the district.

Narayan Chandra Biswas  ,a farmer of Angardah village under sadar upazila said, he harvested 35 mounds of Boro paddy from each bigha of land.He cultivated Boro paddyon 15 bigha of land this season.

Another farmer Jabbar Mollah of Tila  village under sadar upazila said,” I had cultivated Boro on three  bighas of land this year, adding that all of them were cut off and I am expecting reasonable prices”.

Deputy Director Department of Agriculture Extension(DAE) Md. Tajul Islam said, a total of 39530 hectares of land brought under Boro cultivation in the district this season. Boro seeds and fertilizer were given  among 6000 farmers free of cost in the district. Nine percent harvesting of Boro  has already been completed in the district.Farmers are interested in Boro  cultivation as they get good prices for their products.
