A total of six members of Parliament and their families, including Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal during the recently departed Awami League government, and their families as BO (Beneficiary Owners) have been suspended indefinitely. Khandkar Rashed Maqsood, the new chairman of BSEC, issued the instructions in this regard on Thursday.

The people whose BO accounts have been blocked are – former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan, his daughter Shafia Tasnim Khan; Former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, his wife Nurun Fatema Hasan, his daughter Nafisa Jumaina Mahmud; Former Posts and Telecommunications Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, his wife Arifa Jasmine Kanika; Former Member of Parliament and Awami League General Secretary of Pirojpur District Mohiuddin Maharaj, his wife Umme Kulsoom, his son Sammam Junaid Ifti.

Besides, former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, his wife Rukhmila Zaman Chowdhury, his sister Roksan Zaman Chowdhury, his brother Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, his daughter Jeba Zaman Chowdhury, Saifuzzaman’s relative Zara Zaman; Former Information and Broadcasting Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat and his wife Sharmin Mostari’s BO accounts were blocked.

According to the BSEC directive, all the BO accounts in the stock market in the name of the mentioned persons will remain blocked until further instructions. As long as these accounts remain blocked, only deposits can be made to them, but no withdrawals can be made. No shares can be traded as these BOs while blocked. Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL), the institution keeping shares and BO accounts, has been instructed to implement this decision.
