BNP submits audit report to the EC

BNP has presented its income and expenditure report for 2024 to the Election Commission. The report indicates an income of 156,594,842 taka and an expenditure of 48,0482 taka. Additionally, there is a balance of 108,590,019 taka in the bank.

A delegation headed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday to submit the report.

In a conversation with reporters afterward, he expressed concerns that those who have undermined democracy might attempt to disrupt the election process. He emphasized that the government must address this issue. The public anticipates that the current commission will facilitate a free, fair, and inclusive election. For the past 15 years, citizens have been deprived of their voting rights and have been eagerly waiting to cast their votes. Consequently, this senior BNP official hopes that the current commission will ensure the conduct of fair elections.

Rizvi accused the Awami League of manipulating elections by appointing ineffective individuals to the Election Commission in the past. He further stated that the previous authoritarian government had dismantled the electoral system and other essential structures in the country.

On July 7, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced that letters had been dispatched to registered parties requesting their income and expenditure reports. However, due to the suspension of the Awami League’s registration, they did not receive these letters.

As per the Representation of the People Order (RPO), political parties are required to submit their income and expenditure accounts for the previous calendar year to the Election Commission by July 31 each year. The Representation of the People Ordinance stipulates that if a party fails to submit its income and expenditure accounts for three consecutive years, its registration may be revoked.

At present, there are 51 parties registered with the Election Commission, including the Awami League, but letters have only been sent to 50 parties due to the suspension of the Awami League’s registration.
