B.Mirror Desk: A business delegation from the Bangladesh–Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) visiting the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 has held a strategic meeting with the Director General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Dato’ Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee, along with other senior officials. The visiting BMCCI delegation was led by its President, Md. Anwar Shahid, accompanied by Vice President Md. Arfatur Rahman Apel, Secretary General Syed Moinuddin Ahmed, Director Abu Hena Mastafa Kamal, and Adviser Mr. Mahbub Alam Shah.
The meeting represents a major forward leap for Bangladesh’s trade prospects, particularly as internationally recognized Halal certification becomes an essential and mandatory requirement for global export markets. Throughout the discussions, both sides focused on establishing clear compliance pathways, exploring a JAKIM-supported Halal certification mechanism in Bangladesh, and creating a structured framework to help Bangladeshi exporters meet stringent Malaysian and international standards. The initiative aims to build on existing achievements, such as the recognition already granted to the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, to further expand local certification capacity.
Highlighting BMCCI’s vision for transforming local trade capabilities, BMCCI President Md. Anwar Shahid emphasized that Bangladesh holds immense potential to become a stronger producer and exporter of Halal products, provided exporters are backed by internationally trusted certification. He noted that BMCCI’s objective extends far beyond simply certifying products for entry into Malaysia. The goal is to make Bangladeshi enterprises globally competitive, highly credible, and fully export-ready across all international Halal markets by leveraging Malaysian standards, audit requirements, and compliance frameworks.
In response, JAKIM Director General Dato’ Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee offered positive and progressive feedback, commending BMCCI for taking proactive measures to align Bangladeshi businesses with global Halal benchmarks. Expressing JAKIM’s strong willingness to support Bangladesh, the Director General highlighted opportunities for institutional cooperation, technical guidance, and joint human capital development through JAKIM’s Malaysia Halal Council Secretariat, the Halal Professional Board, and the Malaysia International Halal Academy.
He assured that JAKIM is ready to guide Bangladesh on fulfilling practical institutional requirements and establishing a credible, aligned certification pathway.
To turn these discussions into concrete progress, both organizations agreed on establishing a dedicated JAKIM–BMCCI working group to streamline certification processes and technical cooperation.
