Bida cancels approval of 10 economic zones

BM Desk: The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) has revoked the approval for ten economic zones (EZs).

This decision was made during a meeting of the Bida governing body held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Dhaka on Sunday, presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, the executive chairman of both Bida and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza), provided this update following the meeting.

According to the resolution, five of the cancelled economic zones are owned by the government, while the other five are privately owned.

The five government-owned economic zones that have been cancelled include: Sonadia Eco-Tourism Park (Cox’s Bazar), Sundarbans Tourism Park (Bagerhat), Gazaria Economic Zone (Munshiganj), Sreepur Economic Zone (Gazipur), and Mymensingh Economic Zone (Mymensingh).

The private economic zones that have been cancelled are: BGMEA Garments Industrial Park (Munshiganj), Chhatak Economic Zone (Sunamganj), Fomcom Economic Zone (Bagerhat), City Special Economic Zone (Dhaka), and Sonargaon Economic Zone (Narayanganj).
