An international conference titled ‘Sustainability Standards’ was organized by the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) in the Maldives recently. The Vice President of ICMAB, Chairman of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC), and Professor of Chittagong University, Dr. Md. Salim Uddin FCA, FCMA, as panel discussants, gave an important speech at the conference.
In his speech, Dr. Salim highlighted the global vision and goal of ‘One World, One Family, One Future’ and the implementation of sustainable standards and reporting to achieve the net zero transition by 2050. He called upon the government, business organizations, and stakeholders to play a strong role from their respective positions.
He stated that the adoption of sustainable standards and their proper implementation should bring the sustainable concept from the boardroom to the engine room. He called on the government to set a vision for the implementation of sustainable standards and urge society towards its proper implementation; to establish a framework for the implementation of sustainable standards in government institutions and organizations; to establish a framework for the use of sustainable standards, including green taxes; and to establish the provisions of modern laws for the obligation to use sustainable standards.
In this context, he also emphasized the importance of continuing special initiatives toward sustainable standards by motivating all parties inside and outside the organization by creating sustainable business models.
