Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), delivered a compelling message at an orientation event organized by the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), emphasizing the need for students to align their education with the dynamic demands of the industry.
Addressing incoming freshmen at the IUB campus in Dhaka on Thursday, Faruque Hassan urged students to cultivate qualities of responsibility, compassion, and capability, preparing them to positively impact the world. He encouraged them to pursue excellence, embrace challenges, and forge their paths with determination and passion.
The orientation event, attended by prominent figures including Didar A Husain, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB; Professor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, Vice Chancellor; Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor; and Khandker Md Iftekhar Haider, Treasurer, provided a platform for the BGMEA President to address the gap between classroom education and real-world performance.
Faruque Hassan stressed the importance of practical experiences, internships, and interactions with professionals in the students’ chosen fields. He emphasized that real-life training and industry orientation programs are essential to bridge the divide between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Highlighting the significant role of the ready-made garment industry and its ongoing developments, President Faruque Hassan invited students to actively participate in portraying the industry’s true image. He urged them to visit garment factories and witness firsthand how the industry transforms lives and contributes to the economy.
Faruque Hassan extended an invitation for students to explore the BGMEA Complex, showcasing its initiatives in research and development, circularity, sustainability, market promotion, and design development—all contributing to the advancement of the RMG industry.
“Your time at the university is not just about earning a degree; it’s a transformative period that shapes your character and broadens your horizons,” Faruque Hassan concluded, leaving the students inspired to integrate practical experiences with their academic pursuits.
