BGMEA hails khalilur rahman’s election as unga president

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has congratulated Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), terming it a significant recognition of Bangladesh’s growing diplomatic influence.

In a press statement, BGMEA said the election marks a milestone that enhances Bangladesh’s image on the global stage and reflects the country’s strong diplomatic standing and strategic engagement in international affairs.

The apparel sector’s apex body expressed confidence that Dr. Rahman’s extensive diplomatic experience and leadership skills would contribute to advancing global priorities such as peace, sustainable development, and action on climate change.

BGMEA also noted that his new role presents an opportunity to further Bangladesh’s national interests at the international level, particularly during its transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. It highlighted key priorities including maintaining trade preferences, reforming the global financial system, securing climate financing, and facilitating the recovery of illicitly transferred assets.

The organization wished Dr. Rahman success in his tenure as President of the UN General Assembly’s 81st session, expressing hope that he would effectively represent both global and national interests in the coming period.
