Beximco gets nine new directors

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has appointed new independent directors in three listed companies of Beximco Group. The three listed companies are Beximco Limited, Beximco Pharma and Shinepukur Ceramics.

According to BSEC, nine independent directors have been appointed in Beximco Limited and Beximco Pharma and seven in Shinepukur Ceramics. The same individuals will serve as independent directors in Beximco Limited and Beximco Pharma. And seven of these nine will serve in Shinepukur. BSEC gave this information in a notification today, Wednesday.

BSEC said that independent directors have been appointed in three listed companies of Beximco Group as per the decision of the interim government’s advisory committee formed on the industrial establishments of Beximco Industrial Park and the directives of the Ministry of Finance. Among them, 9 independent directors were appointed in Beximco Limited and Beximco Pharmaceuticals. They are Professor Shahinur Islam of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Chairman Syed Rezaul Karim of Bengal Overseas, Writer and Journalist Sultan Mahmud Bin Zulfiqar, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) Mohammad Forkan Uddin, Freelance Consultant Mirza Aminur Rahman, CEO of MNA Associates M Nurul Alam, Principal Consultant of Infinigent Consulting Sheikh Nahar Mahmud, Army Officer Brigadier General Mohammad Shafqat ul Islam and Administrator of BGMEA Anwar Hossain.

The independent directors appointed to Shinepukur Ceramics are BUET professor Shahinur Islam, writer and journalist Sultan Mahmud Bin Zulfikar, ICAB President Mohammad Forkan Uddin, freelance consultant Mirza Aminur Rahman, MNA Associate CEO M Nurul Alam, army officer Brigadier General Mohammad Mohtashim Haider Chowdhury and BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain.

BSEC said that the independent directors appointed to the three listed companies of Beximco Group will serve in these companies for the next three years from the date of joining the board meeting. BSEC says that in the changed circumstances, the interests of shareholders and investors will be much more protected by the appointment of independent directors to the companies.

BSEC said that the decision to appoint independent directors to Beximco companies was taken at the meeting of the advisory committee on December 11. And the responsibility of appointing independent directors was given to BSEC.
