Nurul Amin Khan (Sylhet Bureau Chief): Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-Un-Nabi has said that Islam has given the highest honor to women. “Mothers are moving forward by contributing in all fields through their talent, wisdom, and skills. This is truly a matter of pride and appreciation for the country and for women,” he said, adding that women cannot move forward alone and that men also play a supportive role behind their success.
He further said that women who have overcome social adversities and various obstacles to make outstanding contributions in education, social development, humanitarian work, entrepreneurship, and culture are truly exemplary. Their indomitable courage, perseverance, and self-confidence will inspire other women to move ahead. He also noted that government support is continuing to make women more self-reliant and called upon both men and women to work together with a commitment to building the nation.
The Divisional Commissioner made these remarks as the chief guest at the “Indomitable Women Award” ceremony held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 4, at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in East Shahid Eidgah of the city. The event was organized by the Department of Women Affairs and the Office of the Divisional Commissioner, Sylhet, under the initiative of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, to recognize women who have triumphed in life’s struggles and to inspire grassroots women every year.
The program was presided over by Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Ashraful Rahman. Special guests included DIG of Sylhet Range Md. Mushfekur Rahman, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury PPM, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam, and Public Prosecutor (PP) of Sylhet District and Sessions Judge Court Md. Ashik Uddin.
Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, Sylhet, Shahina Akter delivered the welcome speech.
The event was jointly conducted by Child Rights Officer of the Department of Women Affairs, Sylhet, Priyanka Das Ray, and District Culture Officer Jyoti Sinha.
Under the “Indomitable Women Award” program, awards were presented in five categories at the divisional level in Sylhet. The winners were:
For economic success: Kolsuma Begum of Beanibazar upazila, Sylhet
For success in education and service: Mosammat Amina Begum of Moulvibazar Sadar
Successful mother: Mosammat Rahima Begum of Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj
Overcoming abuse and succeeding in life’s struggle: Kanchan Begum of Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj
Outstanding contribution to social development: Rifat Ara Rifa of Sylhet city
The chief guest and other guests presented them with crests, certificates, and a cash prize of Tk 25,000 each.
In addition, the runners-up at the divisional level were awarded Tk 5,000 and certificates. They were:
