The Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) held its 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday at the BCI Boardroom.
The meeting was presided over by BCI President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez). In his speech, the president presented a summary of BCI’s activities for the year 2022-2023. He thanked the BCI’s senior vice president, vice presidents, directors, members, and other stakeholders for their valuable cooperation in BCI’s past activities. He expressed hope that such cooperation would continue in the future.
Senior Vice President Preeti Chakraborty, along with other BCI directors and members, were present at the meeting.
BCI President Chowdhury said that as the single and only national industrial chamber in Bangladesh, BCI is committed to playing a necessary role in removing all obstacles to the development of all local industries. BCI is working and will continue to work on the development of new entrepreneurs, micro and small, cottage industries, and light engineering and agriculture-based industrial sectors.
The BCI president said that while unemployment is increasing in the country, there is also a shortage of skilled workers in the industry. For this reason, BCI has already signed MoUs with the SME Foundation and the Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) to create skilled manpower.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BCI and Lead Bangladesh Foundation on Wednesday to address the shortage of skilled workers in the country and abroad. Through this MoU, the youth of the country will be trained based on needs to make them suitable for the domestic and foreign labor markets.
The MoU was signed on behalf of BCI by BCI President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) and on behalf of Lead Bangladesh Foundation by Chairman Rafiqul Islam. Lead Bangladesh Foundation Secretary General Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, NDC, along with other officials from BCI and Lead Bangladesh Foundation were present at the event.
On the occasion, BCI President Chowdhury said that while working on the creation of new entrepreneurs and the development of micro and small industries, BCI has observed that there is a great shortage of skilled workers and managers in this area. Again, due to the lack of skilled workers, the expected remittances are not coming from abroad. The work that BCI has undertaken for skill development will be further accelerated through the signing of this MoU on Wednesday.
Lead Bangladesh Foundation Chairman Rafiqul Islam said that this MoU between BCI and Lead Bangladesh Foundation will play an important role in addressing the shortage of skilled workers in the country and abroad. The two institutions will work together to remove all obstacles to skill development and capacity building.
All the agenda were discussed at the meeting and approved unanimously. A significant number of directors and members attended the meeting.
