The central bank has revised the transaction schedule for banks’ Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system — a secure and instant online payment method.
On Sunday, September 28, the Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank issued a directive outlining the new schedule. According to the notice, RTGS transactions will follow the new timing on all working days, excluding weekends and public holidays. The new schedule will come into effect from October 5.
According to the directive:
- Customer transactions can be made from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Foreign currency transactions can be conducted from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Interbank fund transfers will be allowed from 10:00 AM to 5:15 PM.
- Foreign currency interbank fund transfers will take place between 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
- From 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, customer transactions will be available only via online platforms, including internet banking, mobile apps, and corporate banking solutions.
Bangladesh Bank stated that the update aims to improve customer service and ensure faster and more organized banking operations. All banks and financial institutions have been instructed to prepare accordingly for the new schedule.
It’s worth noting that RTGS is a real-time payment system that enables large-value transactions to be completed quickly, securely, and accurately. Both public and private sector entities rely on RTGS for handling important financial transactions daily.
