BB and BCB signed ‍an agreement

An agreement was signed between Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd. to facilitate the disbursement of loans at low interest rates and on easy terms from the BDT 5,000 crore working capital refinance fund dedicated to the CMSME sector.

The signing ceremony took place on September 8, 2026, at the A.N. Hamidullah Conference Room of the Bangladesh Bank Head Office. Mr. Md. Zabdul Islam, Director of the SME and Special Programmes Department at Bangladesh Bank, and Mr. Md. Obaidul Hoque, Managing Director of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd., signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Mr. Md. Anis Ur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest. Also present were Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Nahid Rahman and Additional Director Shahanaj Pervin.

Bangladesh Bank established this fund under its announced BDT 60,000 crore stimulus package. The initiative aims to boost the operational capacity of CMSME enterprises—enabling them to conduct production, service, or business activities at full capacity by providing necessary working capital loans or investments—and to revitalize the sluggish economy through the creation of direct and indirect employment.

Under this fund, CMSME enterprises that are generally operational but unable to function at full capacity due to a lack of necessary working capital will receive financing facilities at an interest rate of only 9%.
