BARACA SDDB Project celebrates World AIDS Day 2023 with public awareness rally

BM Report:

In honor of World AIDS Day 2023, themed “Prevention of AIDS in the hands of the community,” BARACA SDDB Project organized a public awareness campaign on December 1st. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention among drug addicts and the broader community.

At 9:00 AM, members of various BARACA units, including the Baraka Men’s Drop-in Center, gathered on the road adjacent to Dhaka’s Khilgaon Railgate. The event featured a public awareness stand, a human chain, and a special rally. The presence of Baraka Director Brother Nirmal Francis Gomez, CSC, Network Officer Pradeep D Costa, and field officer Ziaul Hasan Fuad added significance to the occasion.

The rally saw participation from 45 individuals representing the Alokito Shishu Project, social group members, the Baraka Male Drop-in Centre, Khilgaon, and other supporters. Representatives of Race Fashion House, an ASI of Khilgaon Police Station, Baraka Psychologist, media personnel, and Baraka staff also joined the event.

Starting at the Khilgaon Railgate, the rally proceeded through the streets, spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and the importance of community involvement in addressing the issue. The procession culminated at the Baraka Mail Drop-in Center, Khilgaon office, emphasizing the center’s crucial role in supporting vulnerable individuals.

Since its establishment in 2007, the BARACA Drop-in Center has played a vital role in reducing HIV infection rates among drug addicts in Bangladesh. By providing various health services to around 700 at-risk individuals, the center continues to contribute significantly to promoting public health and well-being.

This World AIDS Day, BARACA SDDB Project’s public awareness campaign successfully engaged the community and highlighted the importance of collective efforts in combating HIV/AIDS. The organization’s ongoing dedication to supporting vulnerable populations and promoting prevention measures remains crucial to building a healthier and more resilient community.
