Bangladesh, US sign reciprocal trade agreement

Bangladesh and the United States have signed the “Agreement on Reciprocal Trade” (ART). Under this agreement, the tariff rate on exported products will be reduced from 20 percent to 19 percent. In addition, garments exported using cotton and synthetic fibers imported from the United States will enjoy zero reciprocal duty.

The agreement was signed virtually with the United States on Monday (9 February) at the Ministry of Commerce conference room.

National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin, and Commerce Ministry Secretary Mahbubur Rahman joined the signing ceremony virtually from Bangladesh. The agreement was signed on behalf of Bangladesh by the Commerce Adviser, while Jamieson Greer signed on behalf of the United States.

The Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on International Affairs, Lutfe Siddiqi, was also present virtually.
