B Mirror Desk : According to its chief financial officer, Bangladesh has significantly lowered the amount it owes India’s Adani Power for a power supply agreement, and the business is optimistic about recouping the approximately $900 million that is still owed.
In light of the domestic political unrest that resulted in the removal of the country’s prime minister last August and the rising cost of imports since the Russia-Ukraine crisis in 2022, Bangladesh has found it difficult to fulfill its obligations under the terms of the 2017 agreement, according to Reuters.
Adani cut its supply in half last year as a result, but CFO Dilip Jha stated that the business has since restored full supply as the nation’s monthly payments have begun to cover some of the outstanding balance.
In a Thursday post-earnings call with investors, Jha stated, “We are giving full electricity to Bangladesh… the payment we are receiving presently is higher than the monthly invoice.”
“We hope that the prior overdue dues will also be liquidated, in addition to continuing to receive payments equal to the current month’s invoicing.”
According to the corporation, out of the approximately $2 billion that was billed to Bangladesh, nearly $1.2 billion has been paid.
