B Mirror Report: Bangladesh has received another liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Singapore as the country steps up LNG imports to boost its gas supply.
The LNG carrier Wen Cheng arrived at Excelerate Energy’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal in Maheshkhali, where LNG unloading operations have begun.
The vessel was first connected to the terminal at 8:54 am on Friday, October 2. LNG transfer operations started shortly afterward.
The LNG was purchased from the spot market through BP Singapore.
Earlier in September, Bangladesh received several LNG cargoes from different sources. These included spot-market purchases from the United States through Gunvor, Indonesia through TotalEnergies, and Australia through Aramco Singapore.
Meanwhile, Petrobangla has confirmed plans to import a total of 19 LNG cargoes in October and November. Of these, 10 cargoes are scheduled to arrive in October and nine in November. The LNG has been sourced from countries including the United States, Nigeria and Angola.
According to data as of 2:00 pm on October 1, Bangladesh’s total gas supply stood at 2,625 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).
Of the total supply, 1,610 mmcfd came from domestic sources, while imported LNG accounted for 1,015 mmcfd.
The continued arrival of LNG cargoes is expected to support the country’s gas supply amid growing reliance on imported fuel.
