Bangladesh Launches E-Passport Services at Embassy in Libya

B Mirror Report :  Bangladesh today formally inaugurated e-passport services at its embassy in Libya, enhancing secure and modern consular facilities for expatriates residing in the country and neighbouring regions, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The launch ceremony, organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, was attended as chief guest by the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Kazi Asif Ahmed. Md Jasim Uddin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Lieutenant Colonel Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, were present as special guests, a press release stated.

The event, moderated by the embassy’s Counsellor (Labour), Md Aminur Rahman, began with a recitation from the Holy Quran.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Ahmed described the launch of e-passport services as a significant milestone for Bangladeshi expatriates in Libya. He noted that citizens had long faced delays in passport renewal and issuance, and the new service would address these challenges.

“With this initiative, applications for e-passports, biometric data collection, and passport issuance will now be completed at the embassy, making consular services more accessible, efficient, and secure for our expatriates,” Ahmed said. He added that the move reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted services for Bangladeshis living abroad.

Expatriates attending the ceremony expressed their satisfaction over the long-awaited service, highlighting that it would reduce hardships, enhance legal protection, and improve overall service delivery. They welcomed the government’s effort to provide modern passport facilities for Bangladeshis in Libya.

With this launch, which marks the embassy as the 71st mission to offer e-passport services, Bangladeshi expatriates in Libya and the countries under its jurisdiction can now enjoy faster, safer, and more advanced consular services.
