Bangladesh and China are exploring opportunities to expand bilateral trade, investment, technology transfer and research cooperation, with a focus on energy and the exhibition industry.
The issues were discussed at a meeting between the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Academy (CCPIT Academy) at the BCCCI office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
A two-member Chinese delegation led by CCPIT Academy President Zhao Ping met BCCCI leaders to discuss strengthening business ties and expanding investment opportunities.
Potential Chinese investment in LPG storage facilities, battery technology and solar power was discussed to help address Bangladesh’s energy challenges. The sides also explored improving infrastructure and connectivity at the Chattogram exhibition centre and organising specialised exhibitions on electric vehicles, solar energy and food products.
Zhao praised Bangladesh’s economic growth, consumer market and business potential, while welcoming possible BCCCI participation in research on South Asia’s business environment. The meeting also covered training programmes, joint research and technology exchange.
BCCCI Executive Director Md Abu Taher highlighted the decade-long relationship between the organisations and sought support for Bangladeshi businesses to participate in Chinese trade fairs and training programmes.
BCCCI Secretary General Jamilur Rahman, Vice-Presidents Khandaker Atikur Rahman and Masud Ali Khan, Adviser Md Faizul Alam, and Director Dr Md Rakibul Haque also attended the meeting.
Participants expressed hope that stronger cooperation in investment, research and technology would deepen commercial ties between the two countries.
