Bangladesh bank, Shahjalal islami bank sign refinance agreement

Bangladesh Bank and Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed a participation agreement under the Tk 3,000 (three thousand) crore refinancing scheme for agriculture and food security. Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed the said participation agreement on 31 August 2026 at a function organized at the Conference Hall of the Head Office of Bangladesh Bank. In the presence of the Chief Guest of the program, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Md. Kabir Ahmed, the Director of Agricultural Credit Division-2 AKM Sayduzzaman and the Managing Director (Current Charge) of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC. Md. Abdullah Al-Mamun signed on the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Bangladesh Bank has launched a Tk. 3,000 (three thousand) crore “Refinancing Scheme for Creating an Agriculture-Based Special Economic Center in North region of the country” for the agriculture and rural sector with the aim of ensuring the country’s food security, increasing agricultural production, creating rural employment and above all achieving the country’s economic growth. Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC signed this participation agreement under the said scheme.

The Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Arif Hossain Khan was present as a special guest at the program. After signing the agreement F.M. Newaz Ali, Head of SME & Agricultural Investment Division of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC, handed over the documents. Among others Joynal Abedin, the Additional Director of Agricultural Credit Department-2 of Bangladesh Bank and Md. Rafiqul Islam, Unit In-charge of SME & Agricultural Investment Division of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC were present in the agreement program.

Through this participation, Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC. has reaffirmed its commitment to contribute to the development of the country’s northern region agricultural and rural economy, increase agricultural productivity and create productive employment in rural areas by providing agricultural investment facilities at a simple profit rate of 7% under the said scheme, and to contribute to the expansion of agriculture through easy and affordable financing for farmers in light of the guidelines of Bangladesh Bank.
