Dhaka, June 7, 2024 — ATM Rokebul Haque has been appointed as the new ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy, succeeding Ambassador Md Monirul Islam, according to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Rokebul, a seasoned diplomat from the 20th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs) cadre, joined the Bangladesh Foreign Service in 2001. Currently, he serves as the Director General of the South Asia Wing, a role he has held since August 2021.
Before his current position, Rokebul Haque was the Deputy High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various capacities at Bangladesh missions in Islamabad, The Hague, and New York (Permanent Mission to the UN).
During his tenure at the New York Permanent Mission, he focused on gender, human rights, and social issues such as health, youth, and children. He also successfully chaired and facilitated several UNGA resolutions, including Bangladesh’s signature resolution on the Culture of Peace. At the Ministry’s headquarters, he held key positions, including Director of the Foreign Secretary’s Office and roles in the Americas and Administration wings.
Rokebul Haque holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Dhaka and has completed several professional training courses both domestically and internationally. In his personal life, he is married and has two daughters.
