B Mirror Desk: Brig. Gen. Md Nazim-ud-Daula, Director of the Directorate of Military Operations at Army Headquarters, said Monday that the Bangladesh Army is steadfast in its support for national sovereignty.
Concerns about the corridor are very delicate. The national interest is the army’s top priority. During a briefing hosted by Army Headquarters at Dhaka Cantonment, he stated that no compromises will be made on the nation’s independence, security, or sovereignty.
“The border situation with Myanmar is currently more critical than ever, and the army is on the maximum state of readiness,” Brig Gen Nazim said in response to a question concerning the corridor scenario.
He also addressed the report of 30,000 uniforms being produced for the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) in Chattogram, stating, “The KNF represents the Kuki community, which has a population of approximately 12,000. Therefore, why are 30,000 uniforms being manufactured? What is the reality behind this, and who is involved? The army is taking this issue very seriously and is conducting a thorough investigation.”
Regarding the ‘push-ins’ of citizens from India across the border, Brig Gen Nazim remarked that such actions are “neither acceptable nor desirable.”
“At present, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is effectively managing the situation. However, if necessary or if instructed by the government, the army will also step in. Nonetheless, this type of situation is highly undesirable,” he added.
Previously, Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam, Colonel Staff of the Directorate of Military Operations, provided an overview of the army’s activities over the last 40 days.
He indicated that strict actions will be enforced against mob violence and those who threaten social security.
Shafiqul Islam noted that, in comparison to previous times, the general law and order situation has either stayed the same or seen improvements in certain areas.
But, he emphasized, ensuring law and order is not solely the duty of the army. “It necessitates collaborative efforts from law enforcement agencies and other pertinent institutions to achieve further enhancements,” he stated.
