Tech giant Amazon announced a significant investment in Singapore’s cloud computing sector on Tuesday. The company plans to inject $9 billion over the next four years to expand its Amazon Web Services (AWS) capabilities in the city-state.
This move represents a doubling of Amazon’s previous investment in Singapore and underscores the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in the region.
“AWS is doubling down on its cloud infrastructure investments in Singapore,” the company stated in a press release. “This will support customer demand and reinforce Singapore’s position as an attractive regional launchpad for innovation.”
This announcement comes on the heels of a strong financial performance for Amazon. Last week, the company reported a tripling of profits in the first quarter of 2024, driven by the success of its cloud, advertising, and retail sectors. The Singapore investment suggests Amazon is aiming to capitalize on this momentum and further solidify its position in the booming Asian cloud market.
