Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Director Minhaj Mannan Emon has been accused of abusing his power. A DSE member has submitted this allegation in writing. On Wednesday (3 December), during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the DBA, Mohammad Kausar Al Mamun, Managing Director of First Capital Securities and a member of both DSE and DBA, raised the complaint through a written protest and warning letter.
He alleged that during the last two AGMs of DSE and DBA, whenever he stood up to speak, Minhaj Mannan Emon instructed the chairperson to stop his speech. As a result, he claimed he felt unnecessarily obstructed, uncomfortable, and humiliated as a member. He added that attempting to silence someone while they speak about organizational issues during AGMs reflects a dictatorial mindset.
Kausar Al Mamun further stated that during the most recent DBA AGM, even before he could begin his speech, Emon publicly instructed him in an extremely arrogant manner to “keep the speech short,” which made him feel insulted and dishonored. He alleged that Emon repeatedly disrupted the normal democratic environment of the meetings by using his elected position to exert influence.
In his letter, he wrote that the DSE and DBA are not platforms for any individual’s dominance; they are collective platforms for all members, where freedom of speech and expression is equally guaranteed. However, as a director, Minhaj Emon’s behavior is bringing the institution’s core principles into question.
Through the complaint letter, he issued three stern messages to Emon:
- He must stop interfering with members’ speeches at general meetings.
- As an elected representative, he must show respect to all members.
- He must refrain from abusing power and engaging in undemocratic behavior.
He warned that if such behavior is repeated in future meetings, the highest administrative action will be taken as per the organization’s constitution.
Regarding the matter, Minhaj Mannan Emon told media “There is nothing newsworthy here; you may write if you wish. This is his personal vendetta. These allegations are fabricated. I have no comments on this.”
Attempts were made multiple times to contact Saiful Islam, President of the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA), but no statement was obtained.
