AIIB and NDB to Provide $75 Million Loan to City Bank

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the New Development Bank (NDB) are jointly providing long-term financing of USD 75 million (equivalent to BDT 9 billion) to the private sector’s City Bank. Of the total amount, AIIB will provide $50 million, and NDB will provide $25 million. A tripartite agreement was recently signed between the three organizations.

This financing will supply long-term capital for various private sector projects in Bangladesh, particularly in the renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure sectors. The funding aims to help bridge the infrastructure financing gap in the country and accelerate investments in power, energy efficiency, e-mobility, and digital infrastructure.

Also present at the event was Mesbaul Asif Siddiqui, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Wholesale Banking at City Bank.

City Bank stated that this is the first-ever loan from AIIB to any private bank or institution in Bangladesh without a sovereign guarantee. This financing will boost capital investment in the private sector, create opportunities for long-term infrastructure lending, and support project implementation in critical sectors.
