International Desk: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Sona Shrestha as Director General of its South Asia Department. In this role, she will lead the development and implementation of ADB’s strategies and operations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
This information was announced in a press release issued by ADB.
In the press release, Sona Shrestha said, “I look forward to working closely with the region’s developing member countries to support inclusive and sustainable development.”
Sona Shrestha is a development specialist with more than 27 years of professional experience, including 23 years at ADB. Previously, she served as Deputy Director General of the South Asia Department.
A citizen of Nepal, she earned her PhD and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of California. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Smith College in Massachusetts.
