ACC sues former land minister over Tk 63.79cr embezzlement

B Mirror Report:  The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 18 people, including former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, over the alleged embezzlement of Tk 63.79 crore from Islami Bank through fake supplier documents and fraudulent invoices.

The case was filed on Tuesday at the ACC’s Chattogram Integrated District Office by Deputy Assistant Director Md Rubel Hossain.

According to the case statement, the accused allegedly conspired between 2017 and 2021 to prepare forged documents in the name of Aramit Cement Ltd and show a fictitious entity, Classic Trading, as a raw material supplier. Fake bills and invoices were allegedly submitted despite no actual supply of raw materials.

The alleged fraud involved 27 Murabaha financing deals through Islami Bank’s Jubilee Road branch in Chattogram. The ACC also alleged that the money was laundered through transfers between different bank accounts.

The accused face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
