A public hearing organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was held at the Shilpakala Auditorium in Narayanganj on Thursday.

The event featured prominent officials including Narayanganj District Commissioner Mahmudul Haque, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Jahurul Haquea, ACC Director General (Anti-Corruption) Akhtar Hossain, ACC Director (Dhaka) Mosheed Alam, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Golam Mostafa Rasel, and Deputy Director of the local office, Moinul Hasan Rowshani.

During the hearing, residents voiced complaints against 28 organizations within the district. In response, ACC Commissioner Azhurul Haque summoned responsible officials to the stage to address these grievances directly.

A total of 55 complaints were raised, involving various entities such as the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), the local Election Office, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, the District Cooperative Office, the Land Office, local hospitals, and the Police Ansar VDP Training Institute.

In his address, Jahurul Haque emphasized the need to combat corruption and urged citizens not to tolerate or support corrupt practices. He advised the audience to embody integrity and contribute to a virtuous society.

Highlighting the correlation between influence and corruption, he noted that Narayanganj, being a wealthy and influential area, is particularly vulnerable to corrupt activities.

Mr. Haque issued a stern warning to the service sectors, including utilities and government agencies, stressing that they would face increased scrutiny for corrupt practices going forward.

During the hearing, eight complaints were resolved on the spot. Additionally, five complaints were slated for further investigation, with instructions for the relevant departments to take action within 7 to 10 days.

The ACC Commissioner also directed local officials to ensure follow-up on the resolution of the complaints presented at the hearing.
