In-depth and intensive social research has become a need of the time, said renowned economist Dr. Hussain Zillur Rahman.
“Status in society has been redefined with the restructuring of the society, creating demand for fresh social research,” said Zillur, also the former adviser of the Caretaker Government.
The economist was the distinguished speaker at the conference of sociology alumni.
He also emphasized the significance of studying how both rural and urban societies are evolving. He called attention to a number of pertinent social science research challenges and exhorted sociologists to pursue careers in each of those areas.
The 5th Rajshahi University Sociology Alumni Association (RUSAA) conference was held on 16 and 17 February.
Approximately 700 alumni from 54 batches took part in this vibrant occasion.
Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Golam Sabbir Sattar inaugurated the first session, presided over by Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin, a former vice chancellor of Rajshahi University and president of RUSA.
The national flag, the RU and RUSAA flags, the release of pigeons, and balloons were hoisted to mark the program that also saw a vibrant parade of students and teachers.
Different sessions of the conference turned into very lively events with junior and senior alumni shared their memories. A career counselling also held making useful links between the department’s students and alumni.
All alumni joyfully enjoyed the music, poems, dances, and solo performances in cultural sessions of the conference.
A new committee of RUSAA was formed, for the next three-year term, with Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin as president there and Abul Masood Mosaddek Ahmed as General Secretary.
