Dutch NGOs pledge continued support for Bangladesh’s development, emphasize inclusion, climate action

BM Report:

In a reaffirmation of their commitment to Bangladesh’s development, over 60 representatives from Dutch NGOs and foundations gathered at the Bangladesh Embassy in The Hague on Saturday. The Third Conclave of Dutch NGOs/Foundations in Bangladesh served as a platform to discuss ongoing collaborations and explore new avenues for support, with a focus on inclusion, climate action, and sustainable livelihoods.

Ambassador M Riaz Hamidullah, representing Bangladesh, highlighted the shared values of innovation, resilience, and entrepreneurship between the two countries. He further emphasized the vital role Dutch NGOs play as “Friends of Bangladesh people,” urging them to actively engage in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the country.

Director-General (International Cooperation) Amb. Pascalle Grotenhuis commended Bangladesh’s progress over the years and spoke passionately about creating a socially and economically inclusive society that protects vulnerable populations and ensures widespread access to livelihoods. The conclave featured three panel discussions dedicated to exploring cross-cutting themes: Inclusion, Climate Action, and Livelihood. Leading Dutch experts and development practitioners delved into key issues affecting grassroots communities, women and children, and youth. They examined the challenges facing Bangladesh’s evolving economy and societal landscape, discussed potential solutions, and explored the possibilities of utilizing technology-driven approaches to generate sustainable livelihoods for climate-vulnerable populations.

The Netherlands International Cooperation Collection (NICC) showcased the extensive history of Dutch development assistance in Bangladesh, spanning over five decades and encompassing diverse areas. Notably, both Dutch NGOs and participants from other organizations lauded Bangladesh as an “open and liberal society” and a “living lab” fostering sustainable solutions, social cohesion, and climate resilience that extend beyond its borders.

This conclave signifies a renewed commitment by Dutch NGOs to partner with Bangladesh and contribute to its continued development journey. By prioritizing inclusion, tackling climate challenges, and fostering sustainable livelihoods, this collaboration holds immense potential to empower communities and build a brighter future for all.
