24 tourists rescued alive, One dies in hospital

Twenty-four tourists were rescued alive after a speed boat sank in St. Martin, but one female tourist from the boat died after being taken to the hospital. The Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted the rescue operation.
According to the Coast Guard, a large speed boat with 24 tourists and local passengers departed from the service jetty in Teknaf on Friday morning for the jetty in St. Martin. As the sea was rough due to rain and stormy winds, the boat waited at Shahpari Island and later resumed its journey in the afternoon when it reached the deep sea called Golgara, 3 km from St. Martin Jetty, and the boat sank due to a hole in the bottom.
On receiving the information, a rescue team from the Coast Guard team at St. Martin’s Station, along with a high-speed boat, immediately went into operation and managed to rescue all 24 passengers alive from the spot. After the rescue, all were given first aid and food.
As the condition of one passenger was critical, he was sent to St. Martin’s Health Complex. A woman named Feroza Begum (50) died while undergoing treatment at St. Martin’s Health Complex. Feroza Begum was a former female member of the St. Martin’s Union.
