The government has started receiving 12.5 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day from a newly drilled well at the Titas gas field in Brahmanbaria, increasing domestic gas supply to the national grid.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit formally inaugurated the gas supply from Titas-28 on Saturday.
The well was drilled at Suhilpur in Brahmanbaria Sadar from December 15 last year by a Chinese company. The well was drilled to a depth of around 3,526 metres, followed by necessary testing.
Trial gas supply from the well to the national grid began on June 19. Officials said gas worth around Tk 200 crore was supplied to the grid during the trial period.
The Titas-28 well will now supply 12.5 mmcf of gas daily on a regular basis, further increasing the contribution of domestic sources to the national grid.
Currently, 23 wells at the Titas gas field are in production, supplying an average of around 331 mmcf of gas per day to the national grid. With the addition of Titas-28, the field’s total daily gas supply will increase further.
