CUB hosts discussion on youth, determination and resistance

Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) organized a special discussion titled “Voice of July: Youth, Determination and Resistance” at the Sharafat Chowdhury Multipurpose Hall on its campus.

Bobby Hajjaj, MP, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, attended the event as the chief guest. Chowdhury Jafarullah Sharafat, Acting Chairman of the CUB Board of Trustees and legendary sports commentator, was present as a special guest. Mohammad Sanjad Sheikh, Head of the Department of Law at CUB, participated as a special discussant.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr H M Zahirul Haque, Vice-Chancellor-designate of CUB.

In his speech, Bobby Hajjaj recalled his participation in the movement in front of the university on July 18. He praised the university for resuming academic activities just three days after August 5 despite significant damage to the campus.

“I was amazed by your initiative. I personally saw around 40 armed police personnel occupying the campus and the buildings being vandalized. Bringing students back to classrooms so quickly from such a devastated situation was challenging, which Canadian University has successfully demonstrated,” he said.

The State Minister also praised CUB for making significant progress in just a decade due to its quality of education. He noted that the university is also contributing to the development of internationally skilled human resources through its Department of Shipping and Maritime Science.

Chowdhury Jafarullah Sharafat said the Board of Trustees would take all necessary measures for the development and welfare of students. He invited students to submit a roadmap outlining their expectations and priorities for further development.

Addressing the students, Professor Dr H M Zahirul Haque said social change begins with self-transformation. He urged students to focus on building bright and successful careers so that they can contribute effectively to society and the country.

Heads of various departments, faculty members, officials and students of the university attended the event. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the guests and participants.
