Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday held talks with Sergio Gor, US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon at around 9:30 a.m., according to officials.

The two sides discussed a range of issues, including expanding bilateral trade and investment, regional cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest.

Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday for a three-day official visit. On the day of his arrival, he met Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guest house Padma, where they held discussions that he later described as “excellent” and said had resulted in positive progress.

In a post on social media platform X, Gor announced that the US State Department had lowered its travel advisory for Bangladesh from Level 3 to Level 2, citing improved stability in the country. He described the move as “great news” for Bangladesh, while noting that heightened caution remains in place for certain areas, which travelers are advised to avoid.

Earlier, upon arriving in Bangladesh, Gor expressed optimism about his visit in another post on X, saying he looked forward to productive meetings over the following days after meeting with the US ambassador.

On Friday, the second day of his visit, Gor visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. He reviewed conditions in the camps, ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts, and the living conditions of displaced Rohingya refugees.

During the visit, he also met with Bangladeshi government officials, representatives of international organizations, and humanitarian agencies involved in relief operations.
