PM vows action over stock market scandal

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is identifying those involved in stock market irregularities during the previous Awami League administration and will bring them to justice.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, the prime minister said the government has undertaken a series of reforms to restore discipline, transparency and accountability in Bangladesh’s capital market.

He said the reform measures are gradually helping the market return to a more positive trajectory and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding investor confidence and ensuring a stable and transparent capital market.

The prime minister added that efforts to strengthen governance and improve market oversight would continue as part of the government’s broader financial sector reform agenda.

During his speech, Rahman also outlined initiatives in education and agriculture, including plans to distribute school uniforms and bags to around 12 million students in 65,000 government primary schools, enhance teacher training, gradually increase teachers’ salaries, revive long-idle agro-based industries, promote modern farming technologies, and expand agricultural exports, including the planned export of Bangladeshi jackfruit to China.
