B Mirror Report: The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) posted a strong weekly performance, with market capitalisation and the overall price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio rising alongside gains in all major indices and increased trading activity.
According to the DSE’s weekly market review, market capitalisation increased by Tk5,213 crore, or 0.75%, to Tk697,739 crore at the end of the week, up from Tk692,526 crore a week earlier.
The benchmark DSEX index gained 91.04 points, or 1.61%, while the DSES Shariah Index advanced 25.28 points (2.21%). The blue-chip DS30 Index rose 30.85 points, or 1.45%.
Weekly turnover on the DSE climbed to Tk5,735.75 crore from Tk4,757.82 crore in the previous week. Average daily turnover surged 50.69% to Tk1,433.94 crore.
The DSE’s overall price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio also edged higher during the week. It rose by 0.12 points, or about 1%, to 9.22 at the close of trading on July 2, compared with 9.10 at the beginning of the week.
Of the 391 listed companies and mutual fund units traded during the week, 272 advanced, 90 declined, and 29 remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also recorded gains across its major indices. However, weekly turnover fell to Tk171.25 crore from Tk360.92 crore in the previous week. Among the 329 securities traded, 211 gained, 89 declined, and 29 closed unchanged.
