B Mirror Report: The country’s stock market witnessed a strong upward trend on Sunday, the first trading session after the government appointed a new leadership at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
At the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), most listed shares and mutual fund units rose in price, while all major indices closed higher. The market also recorded its highest turnover in nearly two years, signaling renewed investor activity.
Market analysis showed that from the beginning of the session, most securities entered the gaining zone. Although some early gains faded in the later hours of trading, the market still closed with a majority of securities advancing.
At the end of the session, 184 companies’ shares and units gained, 160 declined, and 49 remained unchanged.
As a result, the DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, rose by 41 points to close at 5,516. The DSES index gained 6 points to 1,116, while the DS-30 index increased by 19 points to settle at 2,087.
With this session, the market extended its winning streak to 10 consecutive trading days, covering five sessions before Eid-ul-Azha and five sessions after the holiday. During this period, the DSEX rose by 313 points from 5,203 to 5,516, while the DSES increased from 1,056 to 1,116 and the DS-30 climbed from 1,968 to 2,087.
Turnover on the DSE also surged significantly, reaching Tk 1,529.05 crore, up from Tk 1,351.59 crore in the previous session—an increase of Tk 177.46 crore. This marks the highest turnover since August 11, 2024, when transactions stood at Tk 2,010.09 crore.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher. The CASPI index rose by 131 points to 15,399, while the CSE benchmark index CSCX gained 83 points to reach 9,466.
Out of 243 issues traded on the CSE, 133 advanced, 80 declined, and 30 remained unchanged. Turnover on the exchange stood at Tk 57.24 crore, compared to Tk 27.46 crore in the previous session.
The rally came shortly after the government appointed Masud Khan, former CEO of Crown Cement PLC, as the new Chairman of the BSEC. Three new commissioners were also appointed, including Nahid Mahtab, Tanvir Habib Rahman, and Nafiz-al-Tariq, marking a major leadership reshuffle at the capital market regulator.
