Retail Domination of Bangladesh’s Stock Market is “Strange”

BM Report: The newly appointed Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said that retail domination of Bangladesh’s stock market is ridiculous.
“Nowhere in the world stock market is such retail dominated as it is in Bangladesh,” said Khan, while speaking as the Chief Guest at the program to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the CFA Society Bangladesh, on Saturday evening.

Giving hints that the rules for enlisting new companies in the stock exchange will be simplified soon, Khan said that the BSEC will exercise no excessive regulation, but surveillance will be strengthened in market operations to prevent unfair trades.

Khan informed that his commission will simplify IPO regulations and mutual fund regulations, as he observed that a very less number of listed companies remain investable. “The BSEC will push to increase the number of investable scripts.”

Presided over by Asif Khan, CFA, President of CFA Society Bangladesh, the event was attended by BSEC Commissioner Nafiz Tareq, representatives of Bangladesh Bank, CFAs, and top executives from the country’s financial sector and investment professionals. Leaders of ICAB, ICMAB, ACCA Bangladesh, BMBA, and DBA also attended the event.
In their speeches, Asif Khan of the CFA Society and Dr. M. Masrur Riaz, Chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh, elaborated on the roles of CFAs and Bangladesh’s fiscal policy and investment climate.

In celebration of their first decade, the CFA Society Bangladesh awarded organizations as top recruiters of CFAs in Bangladesh and for the development of professional excellence.
Bangladesh Bank, BRAC Bank PLC, City Bank PLC, Edge Asset Management Company, IDLC Finance PLC, Shanta Asset Management and Shanta Securities, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC Bangladesh, and United Commercial Bank PLC were awarded. Bangladesh University of Professionals, BRAC University, IBA-Dhaka University, and North South University were also awarded.
